sui arm chair 2017

Sui arm chair is a dining chair we have been making since 2009, going through model changes on the way. 

When designing a chair, the form never comes first, but when I probe into the level of comfort according to the purpose of the chair, beauty of the design comes to be. 

Keeping that in mind, I put details to paper taking manufacturing process into account as I advance. 

The back view of these chairs are especially important, as they are normally set in the table to look from the back side. Also, I design so that the backs straighten, and postures of the person sitting down looks attractive. 

In 2009, when sui arm chair was initially made, there were only three people working at KOMA. We didn't have a shop, and an order was rare, couple a months at the most. 

So, back then, if we were making one or two chairs at a time, it was much easier to carve it out by hand, than to use the machine for the purpose. Even though it has gone through model changes, sui arm chair is still designed in the same way, and most of the parts are shaped out by hand.
